Here is another one of my openers, a piece I use all the time. As always its interesting unexpected and engaging.
This opener came up quite randomly in conversations with my wings one night. I think we were talking about stalkers and obsessive guys. We talked about it and I ended up asking a few people around us who all had different opinions on the subject, which is perfect for an opener.
…assuming you will infuse the usual opening parameters somewhere (false time constraints etc we shall get into this later.)
Now there are many variations of this. Here is one of them.
Blade: have you ever googled someone….someone you were interested in, your boyfriend , an ex…
if she answers NO
Blade: why not? …scared of what you might find ?….
If she answers YES
Blade: ” who was it?……what did you hope to find? ……did you find anything? “
Grounding: ( grounding is just basically letting her/them know why you are asking )
Blade: ..my friends and i were talkin about it now…..He googled an ex girlfriend of who has since moved to the UK …and it turns out she was somehow involved in some shady business….” ( this actually happened to someone I know ) “
OR
Blade: ” my friends and I were talking earlier about “digital footprints” ( you might be asked what that is) ..and its amazing how much information about us is on the internet especially when you use the net alot…So next time your alone….google yourself……especially if your on places like myspace and facebook “
A Friend of mine got denied a job because their prospective employers googled them.
Remember, encourage them to express their thoughts, the more they talk about it the more interesting it gets.
