First 5 Days in Cape Town

Posted by Blade On January - 16 - 2008

Finally found some time to write about my Cape Town experience.

Been chilling in Cape Town for a couple days now and so far so good! There are a couple of observations that I have made that might prove to be useful when beginning to establish a social circle here.

I was lucky enough to get in touch with an old school buddy that lives in Cape Town; he in turn organized me a really tight spot in sea point / green point area. For those of you that don’t know Cape Town at all, sea point / green point area is a very cool area, relatively close to the main city center and more importantly (to me) very close to the sea.

My Area
The area has plenty of cafes, restaurants and take-away spots within walking distance. It also has a long promenade available for long walks and jogs along the beach. There are plenty of things to do that I enjoy. This kind of location is perfect for no-pressure type dates.

My Crib
A key factor for me is being comfortable where you stay. It doesn’t have to be a 5 bedroom mansion in the hills to be comfortable, what matters is if you are comfortable living there.
I’m very fortunate. My complex has a gym and a pool with an entertainment area, ideal for inviting friends over.

My People
I’m lucky enough to be sharing a flat with an old friend who’s really in touch with the social scene around town. He knows a lot of the most happening spots around town and a few of the barmen/bar ladies and bouncers. So when I do go out to certain spots I feel a lot more comfortable. This certainly helps with confidence and lessens approach anxiety not to mention a little bit of DHV.
I have already met a few people through my friends here and so my social circle is already expanding.

My Plan
The sooner I get attuned to the cities rhythm / pace the better. My priorities right now are settling into my new job, establishing a comfortable routine (e.g. getting back to gym / running). This will naturally occur over the next couple of weeks. I’m certain that being aware of the adjustment speeds up the adjustment.

As you have probably noticed, I haven’t talked about women very much. In fact I mentioned them once. I’ve talked mostly about my comfort and confidence levels mostly. Why is this?

If you don’t feel comfortable and confident within yourself it becomes even more difficult for others to feel comfortable and confident around you.
Inner game first!
